About this feeder

Honest details, in plain English.

Melanogaster Fruit Flies — Micro Feeders for Dart Frogs and Tiny Species

Flightless melanogaster fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) are the smallest commonly available feeder insect — ideal for dart frog froglets, thumbnail dart frogs (Ranitomeya), tiny mantis nymphs, and other micro insectivores. Smaller than hydei fruit flies, melanogaster are the go-to for the smallest animals in the hobby.

Flightless: Cannot fly. Walk and hop only. Dust with fine calcium/vitamin supplement before offering.

For larger feeders, see our discoid roaches, silkworms, BSFL, and hornworms.
