The Supervision Framework

Teach kids to wash hands after feeding their reptile, cleaning the colony, or handling roaches. Frame it as part of the routine, like brushing teeth after meals—not as a scare tactic, just standard practice. Most kids are perfectly fine with it once it's normalized.
Keep the colony enclosure covered during care so roaches don't jump or climb onto kids' clothes (they won't climb, but their legs are fine, and some kids prefer not to have them crawl on their sleeves). A simple screen top or cloth covering does the job.
